Chrome tabs reload? Try one Memory Saver exception

Keep one desktop site active while leaving other tabs unchanged.

By Browser Changebook editorial desk · 2026-11-02 · 1 min read

The first answer

First save your work. This setting addresses inactive-tab reloads; it is not a diagnosis of every reload.

Check the symptom

Google says unused tabs may be deactivated and reload when selected. Note whether your reload follows inactivity.

Add one exception

On desktop, open More > Settings > Performance. Beside “Always keep these sites active,” select Add. Choose an open site or enter its address, then select Add.

Review the result

Our suggested check: record the site and your previous setting, change only this exception, then observe the next return. If reloading continues, keep that result for further troubleshooting; avoid repeatedly adding broader exceptions.

Before you change it

  1. Save important work.
  2. Keep the change narrow.
  3. Record the result.
